About Me

Where Science Meets the Art of Conversation

I'm Brittany Godin, and I founded Compassion Campus on a simple belief: that the quality of my conversations determines the quality of the change I create. I am an educator, coach, and practitioner rooted in the transformative power of Motivational Interviewing.

My Mission

I exist to equip professionals with the relational skills to help people discover their own reasons for change. Through rigorous training, compassionate coaching, and a deep commitment to the MI spirit, I prepare practitioners to meet people where they are—and walk alongside them toward where they want to be.

Since founding Compassion Campus, I have trained professionals across healthcare, education, criminal justice, and coaching, building a growing community of practitioners who lead with empathy and evidence.

What Guides Me

My Values

Compassion First

I believe every interaction is an opportunity to honor the dignity and autonomy of the human spirit.

Evidence-Based Rigor

My curriculum is grounded in four decades of MI research and continuously refined by leading scholars.

Collaborative Spirit

I practice what I teach—my learning environment mirrors the partnership model at the heart of MI.

Transformative Impact

I measure success not by knowledge transferred but by the lasting change my graduates create in the world.

Background

What is Motivational Interviewing?

The approach was first developed by William Miller (USA) in the 1980s, building on his own doctorate training and practice foundation in the approach of psychologist Carl Rogers. He then began a decades-long collaboration with Stephen Rollnick (UK), whose early career was in behavioural healthcare.

In August 2023, Miller and Rollnick published the fourth edition of Motivational Interviewing, titled Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Change and Grow. The fourth edition was rewritten in full to best capture the accumulated learning since MI began.

MI continues to evolve as we learn more from research and practice, and what we understand to be MI now may be further refined in future.
